Sothaugen and Vallset are bouldering areas located in the Innlandet region along both sides of the Rv. 24 road. Sothaugen lies on the western side of the road, while Vallset can be found on the eastern side when approaching from the north. Together, the areas offer around 80 boulders scattered across a stretch nearly one kilometre long, creating a varied and adventurous climbing experience.
Unlike the compact layout of Stangebleau, the boulders here are spread out along the roadsides, giving the area a quieter and more exploratory atmosphere. There are several small parking possibilities along the road, allowing climbers to choose different access points depending on which boulders they plan to visit. The closest boulders can usually be reached within 5–10 minutes, while some of the more remote sectors require walks of up to 20 minutes.
Some of the boulders — including Askeladden, Askepott, Storebratt, Rødtoppen, and Twin Towers — are located deeper in the forest and may require navigating less obvious trails, so the approaches are not always straightforward.
Because this part of the Stange area receives fewer visitors than Stangebleau, some boulders have moss or vegetation on the holds, especially after wet periods. Bringing a brush is therefore strongly recommended. For climbers looking for a more peaceful atmosphere, hidden lines, and the feeling of discovering new boulders in the valley, Sothaugen and Vallset offer an excellent alternative to the more popular sectors nearby.
