From the A6 motorway, exit at Ceva and follow the SS28 up Val Tanaro through Garessio and Ormea. At Ponte di Nava, turn towards Viozene and continue for approximately 10 km. Park near the village church.
Walk uphill through Viozene, following signs for Rifugio Mongioie. At the village bread oven turn right, continue past the last houses at Piumini, then follow the mule track and path to Pian Rosso and the refuge.
From the refuge take the track towards Vene del Negrone. Leave it for the steep uphill branch leading to the alpine farm. Continue along the path traversing left to a small saddle, where Rocca del Manco and its large natural opening come into view. Follow the grassy ridge, then the cairned track left into the gully. Ascend the steep gully of grass and loose stones to the foot of the wall.
