La Béthaz is the name of the charming hamlet located at the foot of this group of three main crags sharing a single parking area in Valgrisenche. The climbing area offers a rich variety of styles across five distinct sectors:
• La Mecca: The first sector reached along the path, featuring 19 routes ranging from vertical face climbing to steep overhangs, packed with technical slabs and cracks. The sector offers something for everyone, with grades from 5c to 8a, short explosive problems, and long endurance pitches. Standout lines include the Hill Bill crack, as well as the physical tests La Mecca, Re Evolution, and Paradigma. It is ideal for mid-seasons or sunny winter mornings. The base is comfortable, though not suitable for small children due to a steep rock drop located a few meters below the belay area.
• Pachou Sinistra: A slab sector featuring excellent quality rock and very good bolting. It hosts many gentle, easy routes graded 3 to 6a, making it perfect for educational climbing, beginners, and practicing rope management maneuvers. Some short multi-pitch routes are also present. The base is flat and family-friendly. Highlights include Knut and the multi-pitch Emù.
• Pachou Destra: The total opposite of its left counterpart. Defined by imposing red overhangs, the routes here are physical, pumpy, and highly aherial, graded from 6b to 8a. Climbing revolves around sharp crimps and athletic moves. It is best enjoyed in mid-seasons or on late summer afternoons. The base is fairly comfortable. Key highlights include the classic Pachou, La spigola along the edge, and the remaining aesthetic lines along this grand arête.
• Miollet Sinistro: A steep, reddish overhanging wall offering 14 high-quality endurance routes from 6a+ to 7c. Highly popular due to the exceptional beauty of its pitches—among the finest in the entire valley. Unmissable classics include Chimera, Il colore della follia, and Non ti fidare. The base is broad, comfortable, and well-suited for families. Ideal for mid-seasons or late summer afternoons.
• Miollet Destro: Located out of the trees, this sector boasts a stunning vertical wall where climbing is technical and sequence-heavy on small footholds and crimps. It features 19 routes from 5c to 7c, including true local highlights such as La Maiala, La ciociara, and Intifada. The base is flat and family-friendly, best climbed in mid-season or late summer afternoons.
A fresh drinking water fountain is available in the village of La Béthaz.
Valgrisenche is renowned for its tranquil alpine environment, picturesque scenery, and rich artisan traditions, such as the famous hand-woven wool fabric known as Drap. Don't miss a visit to the imposing Beauregard Dam and the surrounding hiking trails offering panoramic views of the glaciers of Valgrisenche.
Periodo ideale: mezze stagioni o tardo pomeriggio estivo.
