Description

🇬🇧Oksås is one of the most popular crags close to Sandefjord, and with the combination of Lille Oksås, Hovedveggen and Øvre Oksås it offers quality climbing on both trad and sport in the grades 4 - 6c+, but also has three harder sport routes grading 7b+, 7b+ and 7c.

For beginners and kids Lille Oksåsen, 30 meter to left in to the forest from the parking, is a very good option. The wall is not fully vertical, has good holds and a lot of options. There is also some easy trad routes here for trying out natural protection.

Hovedveggen has a wide variety of routes, most of them quite long. During summer it can be quite popular in the cover of the trees.

Øvre Oksås is great both for the climbing and for the view. It drys quickly when the sun comes out, and as long as there is not a lot of snow it can be climbed at most times of the year. Gets very warm in the summer since it has almost no shade at all.

History

🇬🇧The development started in the early 2000, and most of the routes was put up by Peter W, Stephen L, Rick V and Paul L. It was a good variety of sport, mix and trad routes that was sent.
Around 2010-2011 some more routes was added and got FAs by Per Nicolai Robertsen and Jan Erik Nøkleby.
Some of the routes and anchors was rebolted with titanium gluebolts and horn-anchors during 2020.
The crag is today mostly maintained by Vear IF Klatring.

🅿️ New parking 400 meters down the road at the large gravel parking at Helgerød Idrettslag: https://maps.app.goo.gl/6afTrxjZk9Rn1qq56

ℹ️🅿️ We are very happy to announce that we in good faith have received permission for climbers to park at the north private parking of Helgerød Idrettslag. We ask all climbers to park exemplary and tidy to keep this a sustainable long term solution.

Helgerød Idrettslag arranges large events two times a year, and during the events the parking will be closed for climbers. In 2026 the parking will be closed on the 11th to 14th of June and 6th to 9th of August. Ahead of events there will be signs at the parking lot, and the boom gate to the parking lot may be closed after 23:00 the day before the event, with no further notice.

🚫🏕️🚐🚯🚫 It is not allowed to camp or to park cars, vans or other vehicles overnight at the parking lot at Helgerød Idrettslag. Do not leave any trash or litter.

🧭🚗 To reduce traffic around the houses closest to the crag driving through has been forbidden, and we ask climbers to drive to the intersection at Alonso Huset, and to drive Årøveien to the parking, not driving past the crag.

⚠️ The whole crag Oksås was temporarily closed in the period March-June 2026 due to reasons including climbers not respecting the ravens nesting period, access and parking instructions. Please read and respect the parking and access information so we can keep climbing at Oksås in a sustainable way, with the support from the landowner and others in the surrounding area! ⚠️

⛔🚫 Since 1 July 2026 climbing at Oksås is again open, but with a new parking spot.
The old parking just in front of the cliff is no longer to be used! Do not drive onto the grass, and do not park in front of the garage or between the road and the stacked wood since this blocks the entrance to the garage. 🚫⛔

The landowner does not want the crag to be a place for commercial climbing courses and activities, and to continue our good relationship with the landowner we ask you all to accept this.
