Description

One main boulder just outside of central Mönsterås on Kalvholmen. Very easy access and nice rock quality. Most Most roblems are around the 5-6-grades but there also exists a harder projects or two.

Recommended problems:
⭐ Rivjärnvägen, 6A
⭐ Sunset Village, 5
⭐ Blister, 6A
⭐ Frost, 5+

The landings are good and the boulder is easy to get down from.

Don't forget to also visit "Mönsterås - Lekplatsen" which is very close by. "Kevershäll" and "Alebo" are also not far.

History

"Store sten" at Kalvholmen close to Kråkerumsbron was initially developed in 2017. Then, and for many years to come, it was surrounded by brushwood. In 2024 the area surrounding the boulder was cleaned up.

❗ "Store sten" at Kalvholmen close to Kråkerumsbron is a protected "Naturminne", do not break the stone or leave chalk/tick marks!

The boulder is located just outside of central Mönsterås on Kalvholmen. If you are in Mönsterås it can be easily reached by car, foot or by bike. If you are driving from Kalmar it's about a 35 minutes drive, from Oskarshamn ~25 minutes and from Finsjö ~20 minutes.

🚗 To reach the area from E22 turn to Storgatan at the intersection with the streetlights. Follow Storgatan to the first roundabout. In the roundabout take the second exit to Sjögatan and follow it for 130 meters, then turn left and cross the bridge. After crossing the bridge the boulder can be seen 20 meters from the road on your right.

🅿️ There are two good parking spots marked on the map.

🚶🏼‍♀️The boulder can be seen just after crossing the bridge, the approach is minimal.
