The Cerra area likely represents one of the greatest undeveloped bouldering potentials in Italy. It is an incredibly vast zone where the visible boulders seem endless — massive granite fields hidden throughout the forest, stretching far beyond what has currently been developed. Even after years of exploration, the feeling is that the area never truly ends.
The main challenge is accessibility: reaching new sectors often requires cutting through Mediterranean vegetation, cleaning approaches, and brushing away layers of weathered or poor-quality outer rock to uncover the solid granite underneath. As with much of Sardinia, the granite here is extremely aggressive, offering outstanding friction but also demanding skin and physical endurance.
What makes La Cerra particularly unique is the presence of the Agriturismo La Cerra itself, which provides a solid logistical base together with excellent traditional Sardinian food. It is the kind of place where climbers can comfortably stay for days, weeks, or even months while exploring the area. The atmosphere is peaceful and isolated, deeply immersed in the Gallurese inland landscape, making the entire experience feel almost utopian.
The climbing style is predominantly powerful or highly technical, often combining sharp granite features with complex body positioning. The texture of the rock is exceptionally rough and aggressive, typical of Sardinian granite, and gives the climbing a very distinct character.
Although summers can be hot, the dense forest and constant breeze create surprisingly good conditions, making summer climbing possible, especially in shaded sectors. Winter, however, offers the best conditions overall: cold friction, stable weather, and temperatures that remain pleasant without ever becoming excessively harsh, as is common throughout Sardinia.

La Cerra rappresenta probabilmente uno dei più grandi potenziali ancora inespresso del bouldering italiano. Si tratta di una zona incredibilmente vasta, dove i blocchi sembrano non finire mai: enormi distese di granito sparse nel bosco, con settori che continuano ad apparire ovunque ci si addentri. Anche dopo anni di esplorazione, la sensazione è quella di trovarsi davanti a qualcosa di praticamente infinito.
La difficoltà principale è l’accessibilità. Per raggiungere nuovi settori spesso è necessario aprire passaggi nella macchia mediterranea, pulire sentieri e spazzolare via gli strati superficiali di roccia deteriorata per far emergere il granito buono sottostante. Come in gran parte della Sardegna, il granito della Cerra è estremamente aggressivo: offre un grip eccezionale, ma richiede anche pelle resistente e buona capacità fisica.
Uno degli aspetti più belli della zona è proprio la presenza dell’Agriturismo La Cerra, che rappresenta una base perfetta per gli scalatori. Oltre alla possibilità di campeggiare, l’agriturismo offre un ristorante eccellente con cucina tipica sarda, creando un ambiente ideale dove fermarsi per giorni, settimane o persino mesi mentre si esplora l’area. L’atmosfera è tranquilla, isolata e immersa completamente nell’entroterra gallurese, in uno scenario che sembra quasi utopico.
L’arrampicata è prevalentemente fisica oppure molto tecnica, spesso caratterizzata da movimenti complessi su prese taglienti e strutture granitiche particolari. La grana della roccia è estremamente ruvida e aggressiva, tipica del granito sardo, e dona all’esperienza un carattere unico.
D’estate il caldo si fa sentire, ma gli alberi e la costante brezza permettono comunque di scalare, soprattutto nei settori più ombreggiati. L’inverno, invece, offre condizioni eccellenti: temperature fresche, attrito perfetto e un clima che, pur restando mite rispetto ad altre zone europee, consente giornate di arrampicata straordinarie.
I crash pad possono essere noleggiati direttamente presso l’agriturismo, rendendo La Cerra particolarmente comoda anche per chi viaggia in Sardegna senza molta attrezzatura.
