"La Benedizione" non dovrebbe avere bisogno di presentazioni: gioiello e capolavoro indiscusso di Alberto Gnerro, una delle più belle falesie del nord Italia, e non solo, per l'alta difficoltà.
La parete è imponente, strapiombante, maestosa; i tiri lunghi, difficili, continui, esigenti e mai scontati; la roccia, uno gneiss di qualità eccelsa, presenta un'enorme varietà di prese e prensioni: tacche, buchi, svasi, fessure, ce n'è per tutti i gusti.
L'arrampicata qui è completa e ai massimi livelli: forza, forza di dita, resistenza, tecnica e tenuta mentale, tutto è necessario per riuscire a scalare queste Linee.
Linee con la L maiuscola, poichè a Gressoney ogni tiro ha la sua personalità; a Gressoney non si va a "collezionare numeri" ma a corteggiare tiri, ognuno col suo nome, ognuno col suo perchè, ognuno fonte di enorme soddisfazione.
I gradi sono estremamente stretti, la spittatura lunga e ariosa (ma mai pericolosa), l'esposizione sulla vallata notevole: tutti elementi che concorrono ulteriormente all'impegno richiesto e a dare carattere a queste vie.
Inutile consigliare dei tiri: nel range di quello che ci si può permettere, ogni linea di qualsiasi grado merita di essere salita, che sia il 7a+ di B12 o l'8c+ di SS 26, iconica e leggendaria linea di Gnerro.
Il periodo per scalarci va da Maggio/Giugno a circa fine settembre, tenendo conto che il sole raggiunge la parete tra le 15:00 e le 16:00.
Essendo molto strapiombante rimane riparata dalle piogge: anche per questo motivo è buon uso spazzolare e pulire le prese che altrimenti tendono a impastarsi di magnesite.
Porre attenzione all'attraversamento della cascata a inizio stagione e dopo forti piogge (consigliato portarsi cambio e asciugamano quando cascata e fiume risultano essere più grossi).

‘La Benedizione’ should need no introduction: a gem and the undisputed masterpiece of Alberto Gnerro, one of the most beautiful crags in northern Italy – and beyond – due to its quality and high level of difficulty.
The face is imposing, overhanging and majestic; the pitches are long, difficult, continuous, demanding and never predictable; the rock, a gneiss of superb quality, offers an enormous variety of holds and grips: crimps, pockets, slopers, cracks – there’s something for everyone.
The climbing here is comprehensive and of the highest calibre: strength, finger strength, endurance, technique and mental resilience – all are essential to successfully tackle these routes.
Routes with a capital ‘R’, for in Gressoney every pitch has its own personality; in Gressoney, you don’t go to ‘collect numbers’ but to court routes, each with its own name, each with its own reason for being, each a source of immense satisfaction.
The grading is extremely tight, the bolting is spaced out and airy (but never dangerous), and the exposure over the valley is remarkable: all elements that further contribute to the effort required and lend character to these routes.
There’s no point in recommending specific routes: within the range of what you’re capable of, every line of any grade is worth climbing, be it the 7a+ of B12 or the 8c+ of SS 26, Gnerro’s iconic and legendary route.
The climbing season runs from May/June to around the end of September, bearing in mind that the sun hits the face between 15:00 and 16:00.
As the face is very overhanging, it remains sheltered from the rain: for this reason too, it is good practice to brush and clean the holds, which otherwise tend to become caked with chalk.
Take care when crossing the waterfall at the start of the season and after heavy rain (it is advisable to bring a change of clothes and a towel when the waterfall and river are at their fullest).

La genesi della Benedizione avviene intorno agli anni 2000, quando Tazio, storico local e chiodatore della Valle, invita e porta Alberto Gnerro a dare un'occhiata a questa parete.
Lo stupore nel trovarsi davanti un muro simile non lascia spazio a dubbi, e i due, qualche giorno dopo, tornano armati di corde e attrezzatura per calarsi dall'alto e guardare più da vicino cos' avesse da offrire questa roccia.
E la roccia non delude le aspettative, anzi: l'amore è immediato per questo gneiss di elevatissima qualità e altamente lavorato in una vasta gamma di prese dando l 'impressione di essere quasi finto nella sua perfezione e creato appositamente per arrampicare.
In un susseguirsi di giornate lavorative, viene sviluppata e ampliata praticamente tutta la falesia; solo alcuni tiri qua e là verranno aggiunti anni e anni dopo, tra cui "The last dance" per mano dello stesso Gnerro e "SF 24" per opera di Andrea Polletti.
La maggior parte dei tiri vengono liberati da Alberto Gnerro, tra cui, nel 2006, la sua opera omnia: "SS 26", originariamente gradato 9a e successivamente attestatosi sull'8c+; tra gli altri climber che hanno contribuito alle F.A. della falesia, spiccano nomi di rilievo: Gabriele Moroni, Marco Zanone e Giuseppe Nolasco.
Molti, inoltre, sono i nomi illustri passati in visita alla "Benedizione", tra cui Adam Ondra, Dani Andrada, Chris Sharma, tutti confermando qualità e durezza della falesia.
Ad oggi, con anche svariati link nati nel corso degli anni, il potenziale della falesia sembra essersi esaurito, ma non il suo fascino, che continua a richiamare, ogni estate, local affezionati e climber da ogni dove che vogliano cimentarsi su questi banchi di prova.

"La Benedizione"’s origins date back to around the 2000s, when Tazio, a long-standing local and route-setter in the valley, invited Alberto Gnerro to come and take a look at this face.
The awe of standing before such a wall left no room for doubt, and a few days later the pair returned, equipped with ropes and gear, to abseil down from the top and take a closer look at what this rock had to offer.
And the rock did not disappoint; on the contrary, they fell in love immediately with this gneiss of the very highest quality, which was intricately formed into a vast array of holds, giving the impression of being almost artificial in its perfection and created specifically for climbing.
Over a succession of days spent working on the wall, practically the entire crag was developed and expanded; only a few routes here and there would be added years and years later, including “The Last Dance” by Gnerro himself and “SF 24” by Andrea Polletti.
Most of the routes were freed by Alberto Gnerro, including, in 2006, his magnum opus: “SS 26”, originally graded 9a and subsequently confirmed as 8c+; among the other climbers who contributed to the first ascents on the crag, some prominent names stand out: Gabriele Moroni, Marco Zanone and Giuseppe Nolasco.
Furthermore, many illustrious names have visited “La Benedizione”, including Adam Ondra, Dani Andrada and Chris Sharma, all of whom have confirmed the quality and difficulty of the crag.
Today, with numerous links having been established over the years, the crag’s potential seems to have been exhausted, but not its appeal, which continues to draw, every summer, loyal locals and climbers from far and wide who wish to test their skills on these challenging routes.
