Higgovale Quarry offers moderate to hard bouldering with an unbeatable 1-minute walk-in. While it may not be the most inspiring urban crag visually, this historic quarry holds fond memories for many local beginners cutting their teeth on Table Mountain's sandstone. A quick, convenient escape for a rapid session—complete with the hoot of the resident owl family at dusk if you're lucky.
Established by the Higgo family in the mid-to-late 19th century, Higgovale Quarry supplied Cape granite for landmark infrastructure including Cape Town City Hall, the railway station, and street curbing. Once used as a shooting range, the secluded site now forms part of Table Mountain National Park. Garth Hattingh and Nick Matthews bolted the initial lines on South Africa's first democratic election day in 1994. Today, its granite walls serve as a popular venue for climbing and photography.
