ACCESS UPDATE: Please park to Soltuna Cafe until further notice. There is an ongoing access issue with the road taking to closer parkings and the locals have decided to close the private road.
The Djupviksgrottorna (Grottan) is a bouldering paradise since the area is filled with beautiful routes on good holds with great landings. The lines often have a very steep or roof profile.
The area is full of many excellent routes like Martikainen 6C+, Hammas (RIP) 6C, and Voodoo 7A. There are dozens of easier and harder world class problems.
The best time to visit is during spring before the ticks wake up.
PLEASE clean up after yourselves, there is trash can in sector high tide. Also brush the holds after climbing, to prevent ruining the holds.
The climbing activity in Djupviksgrottan started in the mid 90's. Notable climbers from this era are Vesa Salonen and Tomas Johansson. The hardest route in the area, Normipäivä 8B, was climbed by the legendary Nalle Hukkataival in 2007. The area has since had hundreds of new routes added due to the near infinite potential of the crag and the amount of visitors. Another very influential name for Grottan is Anssi Laatikainen, pioneering a metric ton first ascents during the mid-to-late 2010's.
Grottan has become one of the most, if not the most influential modern day crags in all of Finland. The quality is world-class, and thus receives a lot of climbing tourism from all around the world. The crag contains the most ticked (and thus probably the most climbed) boulder in all of Finland, Hallonpingvin, 6C.
