Description

Curbar Edge is one of the most picturesque venues in the area, with stunning views stretching across the valley. It’s a popular and well-loved crag, offering a wide variety of climbs for all abilities, from the boulder field below to the routes along the edge itself.
The little quarry at the top and the trackside boulders are both easily accessed and offer a good selection of easier problems, making them ideal for a first visit.

Facing southwest to west, Curbar can offer some morning shade, but it is predominantly in the sun for most of the day, making conditions best during cooler weather or later in the day during warmer months.

History

Like many gritstone edges, the area still shows clear signs of its quarrying past, with scattered millstones in various stages of completion along the edge. These remnants offer a fascinating glimpse into the area’s history. Climbing here dates back to the early 1900s, with many of the traditional routes established during the mid-1990s.
