Jabugo

Although the wall in general is commonly known as Jabugo, due to it unmistakable form of a pig´s leg (ham) embedded in its central part, this area contains around 80 routes distributed in 7 sectors, offering a good variety of climbs. There is a predominance of the vertical climbs, crimps, and the sixth grade. At the Toki sector you may enjoy excellent sixth-grade routes of about 25 meters long. At the Karma sector, you may find both short and explosive routes but also endless plates of more than 40 meters long. In Jamón York you may find the best beginners´ crag around Alicante, with a good number of slabs in the fourth and fifth grade. At the Paletilla there are short routes of up to 12 meters with some overhanging spots in the fifth and sixth grade. The Circus brings together the highest quality routes, with vertical walls reaching up to 35 meters and difficulties of up to 7b. The Jabugo also offers high quality routes of 20-30 meters high, although of a much more affordable climbing level. Finally, the Torreón is the sector with the greatest difficulties, with overhanging and vertical plates up to 7c+ and in some cases, more than 30 meters. Due to this fact, it is clearly the least frequented sector of the whole climbing crag.

The history of this area begins in 2012, when the Tocayo sector was almost completely bolted with no more options/space for the bolting of new routes at that crag. The walls of Torreón and Jabugo were the first to be bolted. At the end of 2013, it was the moment of the Circus sector, while the remaining four sectors were opened between 2017 and 2018. Juan Fco. Ruiz “Tocayo” is once again the unquestionable driver of the area. However, Ángel Ayela, along with other members from the Busot Mountain and Climbing Club, must also be mentioned here as the creators of at least thirty new routes in these crags.
