Description

Bovilla is about 45 minutes north-east of Tirana next to a beautiful reservoir. The climbing ranges from fun 5a slabs to 7's and 8's through roofs and on tufas. The sectors are found on both sides of a ridgeline and can roughly be divided in a group facing the lake, and a group of sectors facing the valley.
The sectors on the valley side have shade in the morning, the sectors on the side facing the lake have shade in the afternoon, meaning that by combingin different sectors you can chase the sun or shade all day.

History

The first sport climbing routes in Bovilla were bolted back in 2010 by a group of visiting German climbers.
Although not entirely the first sport routes in Albania these routes became quite significant for Albanian climbing:
By involving local climbers from the start, sharing the info and because of the more accessible level of these new routes this area became the go to spot for the climbing community in Tirana for years.
Since then locals and visiting climbers have slowly added some routes here and there.
Starting in 2021 development picked up in pace thanks to a grant from German developmental organisation GIZ.
This grant provided the local community with bolts which made it possible to open a lot of new routes.
