The Barranquet del Ferri is emerging as one of the most popular and versatile sectors in the entire L’Alcoià region. With a short and comfortable approach and an excellent belaying area, its walls of a great gray limestone up to 15 meters high form a small and endearing ravine where low-level climbers, and even beginners, will find the ideal place to enjoy many different routes on vertical walls and slabs, all through the year. It also has a small cave in which the most fanatics can be confronted with the 8a route A dónde vas tan deprisa, the hardest route of the crag.
The history of this place begins in the 70s. At that time the pioneers J.Candela and Gilberto Chazarra began opening the first routes in the area, all of them artificial, and as a result of this period, the Acapulco, Diedre Xiquets and Esta hija mía routes are born, the oldest ones in Barranquet. This trend would continue for many years until 1991, when the quartet formed by Juan Pablo López “Juanpa”, José Luis Cantó, Alex Mora and Rafa Moreno, would bolt of a large number of new sport climbing routes and would re-bolt of all the old artificial climbing ones, marking the beginning of this area as a sport climbing crag. In the following years, the openings of new routes would continue, with outstanding contributions of Miquel Llinares "Macro", Ismael Ewan "Telo" or Jordi Muñoz "Sovietic", among others. Finally, the last decade has left us two new episodes of re-bolting, highlighting the one carried out at the end of 2019, where a grant from the City Council allowed Alex Mora, with the help of Luis Pulido, Salva Puig and Paco Colomer, to use chemical tensors to re-equip the vast majority of the existing routes, making Barranquet del Ferri the best equipped sport climbing crag in Costa Blanca.
