Located in the mountain range that gives it its name and very close to the natural monument of Els Arcs, the young crag of Aixortá has gone, in only five years, from just being a lost climbing wall in the municipality of Castell de Castells to being one of the largest and most important climbing areas of the entire Costa Blanca. Its almost one hundred routes with all kinds of styles, grades and inclinations, together with its predominantly north orientation, providing shade for most of the day, make it a serious candidate to win the title of the best summer crag in Alicante. It has a peculiar white limestone that makes it difficult to find its wide variety of crimps, pockets and tufas and that gives it a well-deserved reputation of a hard crag, mainly manifested when trying to on sight.
Its walls were discovered by Jorge Murcia at the beginning of 2011. Immediately afterwards, Jorge himself, David Álvarez and Vicente Gimeno “Pitu” inaugurated the area by bolting the Héctor, Tano Transilvano and Maulets a la Lluita routes, on a chilly February day they will always remember for the great snowfall that accompanied them while doing the work. From that moment, the number of routes continued to grow, with Jorge Murcia and David Álvarez leading the area's spectacular and rapid expansion. In early 2021, the Regional Department of Environment of the Valencian Government banned climbing in this zone, citing significant damage to its rupicolous vegetation. After several months of negotiations, a consensus regulation was reached in May 2022, once again allowing climbing in this spectacular setting. The agreement required the removal of around 20 routes and a strict commitment not to bolt any new ones. Needless to say, if we want to keep climbing in Aixortà, it is imperative to respect these rules without exception.
Access is sensitive!
BOLTING NEW ROUTES IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN. The three main parking lots are small. It is very important not to hinder the access track, so if necessary, please go back and park in one of the small open spaces that you will find at the bottom of the dirt track (10-15 minutes walk).
How to get to the parking area:
From the south of the province: From the AP-7, take exit 65 N-332 Benidorm (Levante) / Callosa d’en Sarrià. After passing the toll, take the first exit on the right towards CV-70 La Nucía / Callosa and follow these indications until you reach Callosa d’en Sarrià. Once in the town, you will arrive at a roundabout and take the second exit towards C-3318 Bolulla / Tárbena. After passing the town of Tárbena, turn left towards CV-752 Castell de Castells. After 5.9 km you will crown a small mountain pass, and 1.1 km later, you will find a detour to the left with a dirt track, towards Font del Teixos. Follow this dirt track (later made of concrete) without deviating and after 3 km you will reach the first parking lot, located on the margin of a horseshoe curve to the left (4 vehicles). The second parking (4 vehicles) is located on straight ahead, and 160 meters later, in the next horseshoe curve, you will find the third parking (5 vehicles).
From the north of the province: From the AP-7, take exit 62 N-332 Ondara / Dénia / Xàbia. After the toll, turn right towards N-332 Alicante / Xàbia and after 1 km, take the CV-724 Pedreguer / Denia detour. At the roundabout, continue towards CV-724 Pedreguer and at the entrance of the town, take the first exit from the roundabout towards CV-720 Alcalalí / Parcent. In Parcent, you will arrive to a crossroads where you will turn left towards CV-715 Tàrbena / La Nucía / Benidorm and 100 meters after, take the detour on the right towards CV-720 Benigembla / Castell de Castells. After the town of Castell de Castells, just after a small bridge, turn left towards CV-752 Tàrbena and after 4.9 km turn right and take a dirt track towards Font dels Teixos. From here , follow the same indications as from the south of the province.
Approach:
From the first parking lot, follow an obvious path that passes over the famous rock formations of Els Arcs and which will take you directly to the climbing walls.
